April Tip of the Month:

Spring = cleaning out those closets and cupboards!

Just like our own homes, our organizations need some TLC after a long winter. The hub recommends the following “golden rules” when it comes to EVS practices:

Less is best - try to limit the number of products to 1-2 brands so that staff aren’t using products inappropriately
Disinfectant vs cleaner - products labelled as disinfectants are preferred because these products have properties that kill germs
Contact time under 5 minutes - this ensures staff are adhering to the contact time and equipment or surfaces are disinfected appropriately
Broad spectrum - products should have “kill claims” that list specifically the types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi that it is effective against. Labels that state “effective against most bacterial infections” are not sufficient enough
Educate, educate, educate! If you’re observing or auditing staff and practices are not being adhered to, communicate your observations with the team member(s), educate with demonstrations/videos/pictures, and then reassess their understanding
